It is about the Love of God, as God defines and applies Love.
Let me tell you how the book came about.
During the ‘80’s, ‘90’s and the ‘00’s, I was always seeking the most effective ways to serve Jesus Christ. American Christianity supplied a great many programs and points of view, but the programs and points of view lacked ‘staying power’. Like flashes in a pan they were ‘here today and gone tomorrow’. All of them had some merit, but they were ‘over-sold’. The words used to describe the programs and points of view indicated a result that few people or churches could reproduce. I began to become jaded toward the new programs and points of view.
So, during this time I looked increasingly to the Bible to find the answer to a really basic question: After I become a Christian, what does God say is most important?
The answer was not hard to find. God has given us a Great Commandment. To Love God with all our heart, mind and strength is “The Most Excellent Way”.
Like most Americans, I assumed I knew what God meant when He used the word ‘Love’. But the American concept of ‘love’ simply could not be lived consistently toward everybody. That was quite frustrating and discouraging. And I do not think I am the only one who thinks so.
For me, a breakthrough occurred as I came to realize that God has a specific definition for Love; and that reading what He says about Love toward Him, my wife, my neighbors, (and even enemies) is possible. It can be done!
This blog will be about ‘more’ than the Love of God, but I hope to generate discussion about what God means when He talks of Love.
There are a hundred good reasons to know what God means when He speaks of “Love”. One is enough for now, and here it is: If you do not know what He means, then you cannot intentionally do what He says.
We have only one life in this fallen world. This book can help you realize how God wants you to make the most of it. He has given us something that we can, indeed, accomplish.
What do you think?
