God speaks; and it is so. What Glory is this that God can merely speak and it comes to pass?

On each day of creation God spoke and brought into being what He declared; accompanied by the words “And there was evening and there was morning, (a sequential numeric) day.
The heavens and the earth are vast beyond our comprehension and complex beyond our understanding. The wisdom and power and presence of God are magnified in great Glory for he did what He said He did when He said He did it.
God speaks, and it is so.
How does it glorify God to inject hundreds of millions and billions of years between the time God speaks and the manifestation of His word? Is there even an obscure hint within the text of such long ages?
God speaks; and 900 million years later it is so? God speaks; and 3 billion years later it is so?
Or does the Creator speak very slowly?
One would tend to think that God’s Glory is seriously curtailed by such a method of interpreting Genesis 1. Reducing God’s Glory is not worship it is antiworship.
What godlessness and unrighteousness is this that suppresses the truth? Romans 1:18b
Where are the Biblical expositions that teach theistic evolution?
Theistic evolution does not come from the mind of God, but from the imaginations of those who predetermine that they will seek knowledge without considering the existence of God at all. In fact, any reference to the Creator is intentionally excluded from their pursuit of knowledge. God is intentionally excluded!

Will you reduce the Glory of God in order to Compromise with Fools?
My perspective in this post is easily weakened if one can show that theistic evolution originated from a reasonable interpretation of the words of God. Many have shown that theistic evolution is an accommodation of evolutionary theories that deny any participation by God.

I was listening to a radio sermon Sunday, where the pastor has been preaching through Genesis, and he made an interesting point that made me really sit up and think.
ReplyDeleteWhen GOD spoke into the void and said "Let there be light" there was NOTHING there to obey Him. The power of His command was such that His Word compelled the creation of something to obey Him.
So how can we question GOD's promises today? the phrase, "GOD said it, I believe it, and that settles it for me" takes on a new meaning: if GOD has said it (with a Voice that compelled something to be created out of nothing just to obey it) will be so, than it will be. End of story. ;)

When we read through the gospels about our Lord Jesus Christ we see the same relationship between the Lord speaking and the results coming to pass.
Jesus speaks, and the creation obeys.
I don't think I have a horse in this race to solve the mechanics of how God works, but.. I disagree with your dismissal of theistic evolution precisely because we don't know squat. One theory is about as valid as the next, and neither side of that debate can be proven right in our time. We only speculate what creation might have been like, and when you really think about that statement, it's hard not to laugh at ourselves and our arrogance.
ReplyDeleteThe real gem is that at the end of the day, it doesn't matter one bit. That said, I guess the idea of theistic evolution shakes the foundations of some and strengthens the foundations of others. For that reason, I think it's important to be respectful and recognize what's unknowable.
Theistic evolution is a reasonable attempt at reconciling what we've discovered through scientific method with what the Bible teaches. There's nothing inherently wrong with doing that. I understand you to say that you believe it detracts from the glory of God. For others, it illuminates the wonder and glory of God. This theory that we don't know how long a 'day' is for God isn't new, it was discussed when I was a kid as well. But I'll tell you what - if the data and experiments say the Earth is older than 10k years, and even if God revealed the answer, I don't think it would shake the message of Christ, and what he did for us. To that end, if someone has a hard time coming to Christ because people refuse to let them reconcile evident truths with the Word, well, I'd suggest letting that tree bend, my friend.

Genesis records history, or it does not. The language of Genesis indicates the record of history. You may interpret what God has said any way you wish. Theistic evolution approaches the Genesis narrative in a way that discounts the content of the narrative. Often, but not always, a Christian who prefers theistic evolution does so because of the influence of a godless world, not from the influence of the words of God.
I hope you investigate all sides of the issue from the scientific and Biblical perspectives.
